The Von Underbelly

Our first club gig in London was at the Von Underbelly and we were the headlining band! and what fun it turned out to be :)

on-the-way

This gig was an education in how the gigging system works in London and boy was it a crash course! we landed up there with a sore throated Raghu who was barely able to speak before the gig! with some very quick home remedies, hot water with honey and lemon and all other assorted exotic eastern European treatments, managed to get him in some shape for the show!

There were a bunch of issues and heaps of confusion about the equipment for the show but everything fell into place much to the relief (which was quite apparent when she started smiling for the rest of the night) of Camila from Curious Generation who was the promoter for the night!

But the gig started on time after a quick sound check and the first two bands were quite amazing! I was running in and out and managed to catch some of their set while trying to get people in and sort out some other small issues there.

We got on stage at 10 PM and then played a tight one hour set which included my favourite new song – Sajna! Sareata, our host who came by to watch us almost shed a tear at the end of that song! It was a beautiful moment watching the people in the club just sit quiet and immerse themselves in the music!

A lot of people loved what we did and it was quite a revelation to them that we sing about such simple things in life, and the music brings a smile to their faces, the language barrier doesn’t really come into play here and its just about the music and how it tickles the happy part of their brain ;)

appreciation

Anyway, just like in Bangalore, most of London shuts by 11 PM and getting food after the gig was quite a challenge but the Donner Kebab centre (a watered down version of what Empire Offers) was our saviour and we were a satisfied bunch after a nice kebab meal!

Post meal, it was time to head back to the flat and tick one more good show off the list! We’ve got a day to rest today before 2 of the biggest gigs of our lives! – The Gibson Showcase to the Music Industry in London and then WOMAD – so please keep those fingers crossed and send out a little prayer :)

I shall be back with good news soon … hopefully!
