It’s that time of the year again! The clouds have just come together in embrace and occasionally sprinkled the thirsty earth with the much needed nectar, copulated with the sun to colour the sky with an ever graceful rainbow, the drunken bees buzzing the sound of a psychedelic guitar and the trees sprouting the happy colour…

It’s that time of the year the Cultural Director from the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore waits for months in anticipation…and as that time closes in he is only eager to pick up that phone and ring in “Raghu…are you free on the 17th?”

Oh hell yes!!! I have been waiting all year for you to call me Mr.Director! It’s Fete de la Musique time and how can we not be free on 17th?

June 21st is a date (or the closest Saturday to it as it always is in Bangalore) on every musician’s calendar, the official date for Fete de la Musique – The World Music Day. It’s a celebration of music…celebration of all the years of learning, practicing, composing and performing, a celebration of patrons of music, a celebration of the spirit for which music was born. This is one day where all the musicians of my lovely (did I say that?) city Bangalore come together on one single stage and perform for the sheer joy of it.

This year too we will be there playing our funky folk music. This year is special for me and my band. This is really the first time we are approaching a concert with a calculated mind….!!!! Of course, we have been strictly told that each band/artiste gets EXACTLY 20 minutes! Every year we have tried to stick to that dictat but hey the audience always have wanted us to play that one song one more time!! Ha ha ha…

We will be on stage by 8.00 p.m. and if you blink, you just might miss us! So be there in time and yes if your hands are free, we definitely will need help! Make sure you jump, clap and sing along with us! We have some plans for you if you behave well…we just might be generous to throw some of our CD copies at you!

The RaghuDixit Project will perform as a 7 member band (what??!!) that night…I will be joined by Anirban (Guitars), Gaurav (bass), Shiva (Drums and percussions), Sandeep (Flute), Balaji (Violin) and Rahul (Djembe and Tabla). So see you there on June 17th, 2006 exactly at 8 p.m. Entry is free but the food is not. Let’s celebrate together the spirit of The World Music Day.
