Alchemy 2011 – RDP Feat. Bellowhead

Alchemy 2011 – RDP Feat. Bellowhead

To think that the seeds were sown for this idea in a small coffee shop in Bandra over a bowl of the most unhealthy cheesy fries, just makes it that more intriguing!

When Tasneem, from the British Council and I sat and discussed the possibility of a show that would involve live music and dance and was sort of a musical and was sort of a theatre production and was sort of a concert, neither of us knew what we were setting out to do!

A couple of months passed after that meeting and one day I get a call saying Jude Kelly, the big boss at the Southbank Center, London was in India and if Raghu and I could pop over to Mumbai for a meeting. It was a co-incidence that we were playing a show in Bangalore around the same time, and we convinced her to add Bangalore to her itinerary instead and come watch us play and then meet with us!

Alchemy 2011 and More …

Alchemy 2011 and More …

Next week we kick off a collaborative project like nothing we have ever done before. We are headed to London to explore the possibility and eventually bring to life a collaborative project between us, a fantastic English folk band called Bellowhead and the amazing Gauri Sharma Tripathi.

This is a project that will eventually result due to this collaboration is completely up for grabs and we have no idea where this will lead, but we can’t be more excited to be able to kick something like this off!

First things first however, is a performance at the prestigious ‘Southbank Center’ in London on the 15th of April, 2011 and I do hope you have already booked your tickets and have told all your friends to come over for the show! And when you come there, please don’t forget to stop by and say hi!

The American Dream – 1

The American Dream – 1

America had eluded us for the longest time. Raghu’s visa to America was not approved thrice in the past and the most recent attempt was last year.

Best Newcomer @ Songlines!

Best Newcomer @ Songlines!

A couple of weeks ago, we were on a list of artists that were being considered for the ‘Best Newcomer’ award that Songlines gives out in the UK. We asked for your help, and a LOT of you did the needful and thanks to that, we have great news to share with you!

We are now one of 4 artists being considered for the Best Newcomer award at the Songlines Music Awards 2011!

This is HUGE news for us and we are keeping our fingers crossed for even better news that we can share with you.

Being on a list that has artists of the caliber of Femi Kuti, Yossou N’Dour etc .. is a dream come true for us, doing the kind of music that we do. It is one of the biggest forms of validation that we are on the right track with what we are doing.

The winners will be announced next month, so keep an eye out and a prayer on your lips for us!

The ‘India Dekho’ Tour – Part 3

The ‘India Dekho’ Tour – Part 3

We ended that leg of travel in Tumkur, another first for us as a band and easily one of the best shows we’ve ever played. We were playing for the ‘Tumkur Jilla Utsav’ put together by the dynamic Mr. Somashekhar, the DC of Tumkur and his able team.

Its always a fantastic experience playing these gigs because they are unlike ANYTHING you have ever seen! And yet, they like the gigs you always dream about playing :)
